Senior Pastor Chris rickwartz & Wife, amy
Pastor Chris grew up in Amarillo, Texas. In second grade, he joined a Cub Scout pack sponsored by a nearby United Methodist church, which he began attending regularly. That congregation welcomed his family and became a nurturing community that helped shape his faith.
Chris first sensed a call to ministry at age 14 during a mission trip serving alongside the Navajo people in the Four Corners region. His home church affirmed this call by offering him opportunities to preach, teach, and grow in leadership.
He graduated from McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, in 1996. While still in college, Chris began his ministry career as youth director at the First United Methodist Churches in Clarendon and McLean, Texas. In 1998, he was appointed as a Local Pastor to First UMC in Levelland, Texas, where he also directed the Wesley Foundation at the local junior college. In 2002, he joined the staff at First UMC in McKinney as youth pastor, and after transferring to the North Texas Annual Conference, was appointed as a local pastor there.
Chris attended Asbury Theological Seminary and graduated in 2017. He was commissioned that same year and was ordained as an Elder in the North Texas Conference in 2019.
Since 2021, Chris has served as senior pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Denton, Texas.
We welcome his move to First United Methodist Church, Sulphur Springs, Texas, in July, 2025, with July 13th his first Sunday in the Pulpit.
